| Description: |
Residential Wiring is the study of electrical wiring, both in the HOME and in commercial buildings.
The Residential Wiring student will learn the basics of electrical wiring. Included is reading and interpreting wiring plans; installing device boxes, and outlet boxes; installing 120-volt, 120/240-volt, and 240-volt circuits; connecting receptacles, switches, and fixtures; service entrance installation; conduit installation; estimating wiring costs; and the installation of wiring for agricultural and other utility buildings.
Students enrolled in the Residential Wiring class at Current River Area Vocational School will learn valuable skills in all areas of residential wiring. The class project for the year is the complete wiring of a new HOME built by the vocational school Carpentry class and Masonry class. This project provides students an opportunity to develop basic wiring skills and proficiency in the electrical trades. They will also learn good safety practices, desirable work habits, self-confidence in their abilities, and pride of workmanship. Students who successfully complete this training will find themselves rewarded with enhanced opportunities in the job market as they enter the world of work.
Current River Area Vocational School offers Residential Wiring to 11th and 12th grade high school students and to adults. The class meets five days a week, afternoons only, for three hours per day. To receive the full benefit of the training, two years of training is recommended but not required.
